The year is 1815 and the season is just beginning when the unfortunate Caroline Chatterton is forced to marry the dastardly, libertine Sir Jasper Letchwood. She is devastated as her heart has been won by the gallant Captain Bounderby but sadly the death of her father and the loss of the family fortune to a profligate cousin, means she has no choice.

A body in the grounds of Castleford Grange will change her destiny and Lady Wrightwell will fulfil her ambition to find out who the murderer is before the town constable returns from a weekend away.
