A warm welcome awaits at Lazy Elephant.
The name takes inspiration from one of Sandwich’s most fascinating stories. In 1255, King Louis IX of France gifted an elephant to King Henry III of England. Landed at Sandwich Quay, the majestic animal was paraded to the Tower of London, creating a sensation that still echoes in local heritage. Today, the elephant remains a symbol of Sandwich’s identity, from the new Sandwich Town FC crest to an ambitious plan for a bronze statue on the Quay.
The Lazy Elephant brings the spirit of history together with contemporary dining. Led by the acclaimed team behind Whitstable’s Lazy Lobster and Tankerton’s Land & Sea, the restaurant will serve a creative menu of sharing plates and modern British dishes crafted by Head Chef, Ben Stead. Guests can expect dishes designed for casual dining, paired with a carefully curated selection of wines, cocktails, and premium drinks.
