History

Founded by St Augustine in 597, Canterbury Cathedral has been at the heart of English Christianity for more than 1,400 years. It became one of Europe’s great pilgrimage destinations after the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170 and remains a place of worship, heritage and international significance.
